Classification: Full time...Salary ($39,000) + generous performance-based bonus totaling a potential $76,500 (or greater) + full benefits: 100% health insurance covered, good PTO + holiday time, life insurance, Employee Assistance Program, + a 403K plan.

Job Relationship: Reports to the Executive Committee + the Board of Directors

Position Summary: The Development Director creates and supervises implementing all fundraising strategies, including, but not limited to: donor engagement + recruitment, especially from social media platforms; corporate partnership opportunities, major gifts, grant writing, + brand awareness. The person in this position will manage social media platforms on a daily basis, including creating content, and implementing concepts to increase public engagement and fundraising.

On occasion, the work week may include a weekend or holiday, depending on scheduling of a fund-raising event. This position is a hybrid work from home + on site structure.

Responsibilities:

● Working with the Executive Director, Executive Committee, and Development Committee Chair to design + execute an annual Fundraising Development Plan with achievable, measurable goals + objectives;

● Exploring alternative funding sources and new models for diversifying funding to attract additional support including bequests and a signature special fundraising event;

● Cultivating and nurturing relationships with current and potential corporate sponsors, foundations, and individual donors;

● Ensuring that all donors are appropriately acknowledged and receive regular communications;

● Researching and writing grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation, and government funders;

● Serves as the primary contact with current and potential corporate sponsors, foundations and individual donors;

● Supervises maintenance of donor databases, donor acknowledgement letters and all donor related correspondence;

● Maintain an engaging social media presence across multiple platforms that increases adoptions, donors, fundraising, and brand awareness;

● Work with staff and volunteers to ensure up to date, compelling content is being captured + shared and events/efforts are being executed/implemented.

● Craft and articulate compelling, fact-based narratives and statements of need to support funding opportunities;

● Work closely and effectively with SDS’s Board members to expand and leverage their fundraising abilities, particularly by training and working with them to identify and cultivate new and continuing funding relationships.

Qualifications:

● A bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, hospitality management, or communications is preferred but not required.

● Minimum of 3 years proven track record of fundraising.

● Previous experience of journalism, writing, event planning, or related work is highly desirable.

● Excellent knowledge of social media usage.

● Must have excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.

Knowledge and Skills:

● Experience in all facets of fundraising.

● MicroSoft Office software experience.

● Experience with Charity Proud and/or Constant Contact is valued.

● Enjoy working with enthusiastic, people who are passionate about animal rescue.

● Good customer relations practices.

● Ability to follow instructions and to communicate clearly to others.

● Ability to manage multiple priorities and manage conflict.

● Detail oriented and able to prioritize and perform duties efficiently and effectively.

● Committed to the mission of Senior Dog Sanctuary - to rehome, or provide sanctuary to vulnerable older dogs who are abandoned or surrendered because of their age, disabilities or medical status.
